Performance and Feedback

Although we deliver digital products, we are a services company. That means we deal almost exclusively in people. Our customers are people. Our employees are people. We essentially sell the time and expertise of people, and we can most effectively deliver on that when our internal people dynamics are strong.

We must be effective at helping people perform and managing change. Radical Candor provides a great framework and tools. The book goes beyond the basic interpersonal feedback embodied in the ‘radical candor’ title, and also discusses many other effective management practices. In fact, the book has become something of a mini media empire, and the associated Radical Candor web site has additional resources including the blog and podcast.

Every employee should:

Every leader should:

  • Understand the principles laid out in Radical Candor
  • Celebrate appreciations and accomplishments (often including Lattice public feedback)
  • Thougtfully deliver constructive feedback to direct reports and co-workers privately
  • Loop people managers into any performance feedback
  • Coach staff to effectively receive and deliver feedback
